أَصبَحت رُؤية العَزيز سَعيدِ

كُلَّ وَقت في مَصر آنس عيدِ

كُلَّ وَقت في مَصر آنس عيدِ

The sight of dear Saʿid has become

Seeing the exalted Sa‘id has become

at every moment in Egypt the most delightful feast.

At every moment in Egypt, the most delightful festival.

وَالأَماني عَلى بِساط التَهاني

وَالأَماني عَلى بِساط التَهاني

أَقبَلَت تَنثَني بِقدٍّ وَجيد

أَقبَلَت تَنثَني بِقدٍّ وَجيد

And hopes, upon the carpet of congratulations,

And wishes, upon the carpet of congratulations,

came forward swaying, with necklace and graceful neck.

Came forward, their figures and necks swaying,

وَتَباهَت بِلَثم أَسنى رِكابٍ

وَتَباهَت بِلَثم أَسنى رِكابٍ

لَم يَزَل ساعِياً لِنَفعٍ جَديد

لَم يَزَل ساعِياً لِنَفعٍ جَديد

They gloried in kissing the loftiest stirrup—

And gloried in kissing the most exalted stirrup.

of one who has never ceased striving for some new benefit.

He has never ceased striving for fresh good.

شَرح اللَه صَدرَه وَحَباه

شَرح اللَه صَدرَه وَحَباه

في زَمان الهَنا بِعُمرٍ مَديد

في زَمان الهَنا بِعُمرٍ مَديد

May God gladden his heart and favor him

May God open his breast and grant him,

in an age of happiness with long life,

In a time of joy, a long life,

وَكَسا شبله سَليل المَعالي

وَكَسا شبله سَليل المَعالي

حلَّةَ الفَضل طارِفاً عَن تَليد

حلَّةَ الفَضل طارِفاً عَن تَليد

and clothe his lion-cub, scion of high honors,

And clothe his cub, scion of lofty honors,

in virtue’s robe—new-won beyond inherited glory.

In excellence’s robe, newly gained from ancestral heritage,

ما سَما في تمدّن قَد أَضاءَت

ما سَما في تمدّن قَد أَضاءَت

بِسَناه الأَوطان بَينَ العَبيد

بِسَناه الأَوطان بَينَ العَبيد

Whenever he rose in civilized achievement, radiant grew

So long as he advances in civilization, which has illumined

the nations with his splendor among humankind;

The homelands with its radiance among the subjects,

وَاِنتَضى سَيفَ عَزمه لجهاد

وَاِنتَضى سَيفَ عَزمه لجهاد

وَحمى جاره بِبَأسٍ شَديد

وَحمى جاره بِبَأسٍ شَديد

his resolve drew its sword for struggle

And unsheathes the sword of his resolve for battle,

and shielded his neighbor with formidable might;

And protects his neighbor with formidable might,

وَأَنام العِباد في ظل أَمن

وَأَنام العِباد في ظل أَمن

وارف مدَّه بَرأيٍ سَديد

وارف مدَّه بَرأيٍ سَديد

he let the people sleep beneath security’s shade,

And lets the people sleep in the shade of safety,

lush and ample, spread by his sound judgment;

Ample, which he spreads through sound judgment;

أَو أَثاب البِلاد بِالعَدل يُمناً

أَو أَثاب البِلاد بِالعَدل يُمناً

وَاِعتَنى بِابتناء حصنٍ مشيد

وَاِعتَنى بِابتناء حصنٍ مشيد

or rewarded the land, through justice, with prosperity,

Or rewards the lands with good fortune through justice,

and devoted himself to building a towering fortress;

And attends to building a lofty fortress;

أَو سَعى جَيشه السَعيد لِنَصرٍ

أَو سَعى جَيشه السَعيد لِنَصرٍ

تَحتَ أَعلامه بِنظمٍ فَريد

تَحتَ أَعلامه بِنظمٍ فَريد

or his fortunate army marched in quest of victory

Or his fortunate army strives for victory

under his banners in matchless formation;

Beneath his banners, in peerless order;

أَو تَوالَت أَعياد فطر بقطر

أَو تَوالَت أَعياد فطر بقطر

فيهِ أَثنى عَليهِ كُلُّ مُجيد

فيهِ أَثنى عَليهِ كُلُّ مُجيد

or feasts followed one another, land after land,

Or Eid al-Fitr festivals follow one another in a land

and in each, every illustrious man extolled him;

Where every accomplished person praises him;

أَو غَدا قائِلاً لي السَعد أَرخ

أَو غَدا قائِلاً لي السَعد أَرخ

أَشرَق العيد باجتهاد سَعيد

أَشرَق العيد باجتهاد سَعيد

or Fortune came, saying to me, “Write its chronogram:

Or Fortune begins saying to me: “Record the date:

The feast dawned through Saʿid’s endeavor.”

The festival shone through Sa‘id’s diligence.”
