You posed a riddle about a pen that walks without a foot,

Keeping a straight course among Arabs and non-Arabs.

And as it struts over the pages, you see

Its lines like army ranks in their grandeur.

So, what a youth it is, forever silent,

Yet it gives voice to judgment and maxims.

Its scratching speaks, in every event,

Though it is lifeless, of light and darkness.

So pose us a riddle about something else, since now we understand

Through its solution, the words of this riddle about the pen.
