    O pourer of cups, do not fear the crowd.

    Turn toward me and fill my cup, for I am captive to whoever fills it.

    And blend its heady fire with the gleam of wine,

    Which quenches a blaze already kindled by burning longing.

    لا كانَ يَوم عَن وِصالك أَشغَلا

    We reclaim the goodness of our days;

    May no day ever keep us from union with you.

    And sit with us; let us reveal our secret's innermost depths,

    And renew our joys openly before the crowd.

    سَيف الخِلافة وَالوزارة وَالوَلا

    For we have found safety through the exalted Ali Mubarak,

    The sword of the caliphate, the ministry, and allegiance;

    مِن كُل فَضل مِن حَلاه تَجملا

    The banner of preeminence, its refuge and its pivot,

    Adorned with every virtue drawn from his own graces;

    The keen-witted, the perceptive, the discerning master,

    Through him, the crown of the age's glory rose high.

    بَل فَضله كَالشَمس أَجلى وَاِنجَلى

    Far be it that praise could encompass his perfection;

    Rather, his merit, like the sun, is most evident and shines forth.

    O my master, here is your humble servant, hoping

    For leave with which to attend to his little needs; so, never—

    بِكَ تَرتَقي درجَ المَراتب وَالعُلا

    May you never cease to be a shelter and refuge for schools;

    Through you they ascend the steps of rank and eminence.
