أَتى في التَهاني بِالكِتاب بَشيرُ

أَتى في التَهاني بِالكِتاب بَشيرُ

يَنبئني أَن الشَريف مُشيرُ

يَنبئني أَن الشَريف مُشيرُ

Amid congratulations, a herald came bearing a letter,

The messenger came with the letter bearing good news,

Informing me that Sharif is a marshal.

Informing me that the noble man is made vizier.

فَأَيقنت أَن الدَهر مِن نَومه صَحا

فَأَيقنت أَن الدَهر مِن نَومه صَحا

وَأَيده بِالنَصر وَهوَ جَدير

وَأَيده بِالنَصر وَهوَ جَدير

So I became certain that Time had awakened from its sleep,

So I knew that fate has awoken from its slumber,

And supported him with victory, of which he is worthy.

And aided him with victory, for he is most deserving.

فَقُلت أَهنَّى بِالمَعالي مؤرخاً

فَقُلت أَهنَّى بِالمَعالي مؤرخاً

لمصر شَريف بِالوَفاء وَزير

لمصر شَريف بِالوَفاء وَزير

So I said, congratulating him on lofty honors and recording the date:

I said, congratulations on the high rank, historian of Egypt,

Egypt has in Sharif a faithful minister.

Noble vizier, faithful in devotion.
