وَيَلاه مِن غَدر ريمٍ كُنت أَحسبه

وَيَلاه مِن غَدر ريمٍ كُنت أَحسبه

يَرعى وِدادي وَلا يَصبو إِلى أَحَدِ

يَرعى وِدادي وَلا يَصبو إِلى أَحَدِ

Alas for the treachery of a gazelle I had thought

Oh, what betrayal from Rim I thought

would cherish my love and yearn for no one else.

Would tend to my love and desire no other

فَخانَني عِندَما أَمَّنته وَصَبا

فَخانَني عِندَما أَمَّنته وَصَبا

لِمَن كَرهتهمُ فيهِ إِلى الأَبَد

لِمَن كَرهتهمُ فيهِ إِلى الأَبَد

Then he betrayed me when I trusted him, and yearned

Yet he deceived me when I trusted him

for those I hated for his sake, forever.

And poured himself to those whom I'll hate forever

فَيا فُؤاديَ دَعني مِن مَحبته

فَيا فُؤاديَ دَعني مِن مَحبته

وَأَنتِ يا نَفس كفِّي وَاِنظري لِغَد

وَأَنتِ يا نَفس كفِّي وَاِنظري لِغَد

So, my heart, let me be free of loving him;

So my heart, release me from loving him

and you, my soul, desist and look to tomorrow.

And you, my soul, refrain and look to tomorrow

فَسَوفَ يَعرف قَدري بَعدَ فُرقَتِنا

فَسَوفَ يَعرف قَدري بَعدَ فُرقَتِنا

وَتَنطَفي نار هَجرٍ أَحرقت كَبدي

وَتَنطَفي نار هَجرٍ أَحرقت كَبدي

Then he will know my worth after our parting,

For he will know my worth after we part

and the fire of abandonment that scorched my liver will die out.

And the fire of this painful estrangement will fade

وَلَستُ أَشكو الَّذي بي مِن مَلالته

وَلَستُ أَشكو الَّذي بي مِن مَلالته

إِلّا لِرَب السَماء الواحد الصَمَد

إِلّا لِرَب السَماء الواحد الصَمَد

And I voice no complaint of the pain his weariness of me has caused,

I do not complain of his disdain for me

except to the Lord of heaven, the One, the Eternal Refuge.

Except to the One Lord of the Heavens, the Eternal
