فَتنزهتso took delight بِسماعهاin hearing it أَفكاريmy thoughts
A poem came to me from the loving friend,
A poem came to me from my beloved
So my thoughts took delight in hearing it.
So my thoughts were purified when I heard it
وَكَأَنَّهاand as though it رَوضa garden نَضيرlush يانعflourishing
زاهيradiant الأَزاهرthe blossoms طَيِّبُsweet الأَثمارthe fruits
And it was like a lush, flourishing garden,
As if it were a lush garden
Radiant with blossoms, sweet with fruit.
Blooming with flowers, fragrant with fruit
أَغنىdispensed عَنwith القمرينthe sun and moon مَطلعُهاits opening كَماjust as
أَغنىdispensed مَحيّاكمwith عَنyour countenance الأَقمارthe moons
Its opening dispensed with the sun and moon, just as
Its beginning made the two moons unnecessary
Your countenance dispensed with the moons.
Just as your greetings make moons unnecessary
مَدّتstretched out بِهاwith it أَيديhands الهَناjoy فَحسبتهاso I thought them
أَيديhands النَديمthe drinking companion بِهاin them كؤسcups عقارwine
The hands of joy reached out with it, so I thought them
It was delivered by hands of joy so I thought
The hands of a drinking companion, with cups of wine in them.
Those hands held a cup of wine

Thanking the one who crafted these verses
