عَلاrose over رَوضةَthe garden of الحُسنbeauty الجَماليةَal-Jamaliyya البَهاsplendor
عَلا رَوضةَ الحُسن الجَماليةَ البَها
مِنfrom الصَدرthe leading dignitary إسماعيلIsmail جمّabundant in المَناقبِvirtues
مِن الصَدر إسماعيل جمّ المَناقبِ
Splendor crowned al-Jamaliyya, the garden of beauty,
The garden of beauty and elegance rose high,
From the dignitary Ismail, rich in virtues.
From the breast of Ismail, perfect of virtues,
وَفيهاand in it ابتنىhe built فَبْرِيقَةَa factory السُكَّرِthe sugar الَّذيwhich
وَفيها ابتنى فَبْرِيقَةَ السُكَّرِ الَّذي
بِهِwith it ضَرَبواthey set forth الأَمثالexamples بَعدَafter التَجارُبthe tests
بِهِ ضَرَبوا الأَمثال بَعدَ التَجارُب
And there he built a factory for sugar, which
And in it he built the aqueduct of sweetness,
They held up as an example after testing it.
By which proverbs were coined after trials,
فَصارَتso it became بِماthrough what أَبدىhe showed مِنof الحَزمresolve جَنةًa paradise
فَصارَت بِما أَبدى مِن الحَزم جَنةً
عَلىon الأَرضthe earth فيin شَرقيهاits east وَالمَغاربand the western lands
عَلى الأَرض في شَرقيها وَالمَغارب
So, through the resolve he showed, it became a paradise
So it became, through the wisdom he displayed,
On earth, in its east and western lands.
A paradise on earth, East and West,
وَماand not ذاكَthat إِلاexcept رَغبةa desire فيfor رَفاهةprosperity
وَما ذاكَ إِلا رَغبة في رَفاهة
مَواردهاits springs فيin مَصرEgypt تَصفوrun clear لِشاربfor a drinker
مَواردها في مَصر تَصفو لِشارب
And that was nothing but a desire for prosperity,
And that was only a desire for the prosperity
Whose springs in Egypt run clear for the drinker.
Of its resources in Egypt, clearing for the drinker,
وَذَلِكَand that فَضلthe bounty of اللَهGod يَؤتيهِHe grants it مَنto whom يَشاHe wills
وَذَلِكَ فَضل اللَه يَؤتيهِ مَن يَشا
وَيَجزيand He rewards بِهِthrough it الحُسنىthe finest reward وَنَيلand attainment of المآربdesires
وَيَجزي بِهِ الحُسنى وَنَيل المآرب
And that is God's bounty, which He grants to whom He wills,
And that is the grace of God, He gives it to whom He wills
And thereby He grants the finest reward and the fulfillment of desires.
And rewards through it the good and attainment of goals
وَمُذand when تمّwas completed هَذاthis الصُنعwork قُلتI said مؤرّخاmarking its date
وَمُذ تمّ هَذا الصُنع قُلت مؤرّخا
بفبريقةin the factory of إسماعيلIsmail نَفعbenefit لِطالبfor a seeker
بفبريقة إسماعيل نَفع لِطالب
And when this work was finished, I said, marking its date:
And since this work was completed, I said, recording history,
In Ismail's factory lies benefit for the seeker.
"By the aqueduct of Ismail good came to the seeker."
