وَعَلىand upon المَصونةthe chaste woman قَدindeed عَداassailed
When the army of death struck,
When the army of malice advanced,
And assailed the chaste woman,
And trespassed upon the inviolable,
كَسفتwas eclipsed لَهاfor her شَمسthe sun الضُحىof the morning
وَالبَدرand the full moon أَمسىbecame أَرمَداbleary-eyed
The morning sun was eclipsed for her,
The sun of daybreak was eclipsed,
And the full moon grew bleary-eyed.
And the moon turned bleary-eyed.
وَبَكىand wept العَفافchastity لفقدهاat her loss
وَالنسكand piety ناحwailed وَعدّداand recounted her virtues
Chastity wept at her loss,
Chastity wept for her loss,
And piety wailed and recounted her virtues.
And devotion cried out in lament.
وَمَضتand she departed إِلىto دارthe abode البَقاof eternity
بِالفَوزwith salvation يصحبهaccompanies it الهُدىguidance
And she departed to the abode of eternity,
She went to the Abode of Eternity,
With salvation attended by guidance.
With triumph and guidance as her companions.
وَالحُورand the houris قَدindeed مَدّتextended لَهاto her
فيin جَنةthe Garden المَأوىof Refuge يَداa hand
And the houris held out to her
The maidens stretched out their hands,
A hand in the Garden of Refuge.
To welcome her into Paradise.
وَلَهاand for her هُنالكthere أَرّختI composed a chronogram
بِالخُلدin eternity ستِّيmy lady جانفداJanfida
And there, for her, I composed a chronogram:
For her they erected there,
"In eternity is my lady Janfida."
Sixty everlasting pavilions.
