For al-Dawari, good fortune at the Feast of Sacrifices,

    And resolves joined with success,

And care from him to protect subjects

Who attained great prosperity through his resolve,

And his efforts toward what brings humankind

In his Egypt, benefit and reform.

    تَخشى بوادرَه ليوثُ بِطاح

    And in truth, he is the finest sovereign;

The lions of the plains fear his onslaughts.

And he is the one who governed the land and its people

    With justice, valor, and generosity.

And he took care to spread civilization there,

    And progress, evening and morning.

And his horses ran on the racecourse of fertility,

So they rose high, with an ample lead and room to range.

And in these lands he established that through which

She gained the reins of wealth and profit.

And through him she came to strut in robes of bliss,

Beneath the shade of keen swords and spears.

And she keeps grazing in meadows of purity,

And sways proudly in a lovely sash.

And wins exalted glory, and dons

Robes of earnestness unmixed with jest,

And sound governance, wherein lies her cure

For intractable troubles with bleeding wounds.

And indeed her neck became adorned through his words

With jewels, flawless in their stringing.

And for him her mouth smiled in the season

Of the feast, revealing pearls like exquisite daisies.

And in his presence Majdi said of him, composing a chronogram:

For al-Dawari, good fortune at the Feast of Sacrifices.
