سَأَلت الوَفا بِالوَعد هَل لَك منجزٌ

بِمصر عَلَيهِ لِلأَنام المعوّلُ

بِمصر عَلَيهِ لِلأَنام المعوّلُ

I asked faithfulness to promises, “Have you a keeper of promises

I asked fidelity for its promise: have you

in Egypt, on whom all people rely?”

In Egypt one to be relied on by mankind?

فَقالَ أَميري وَافر الحَزم ثابت

فَقالَ أَميري وَافر الحَزم ثابت

سَمير العُلا في دَولة المَجد أَوّلُ

سَمير العُلا في دَولة المَجد أَوّلُ

It said, “My emir, abundant in resolve and steadfast,

My lord of ample wisdom answered: Steadfast,

a nightly companion of eminence, foremost in the realm of glory.”
