لَكَto you المَجدglory ياO صَدرforemost figure العُلاeminence وَالمَكارمِand noble deeds
لَكَ المَجد يا صَدر العُلا وَالمَكارمِ
عَلىfor سَعيكyour striving المَشكورpraiseworthy أَوّلُforemost خادمِservant
عَلى سَعيك المَشكور أَوّلُ خادمِ
Glory is yours, O foremost in eminence and noble deeds,
You deserve all glory, O magnanimous one,
For your praiseworthy striving, foremost of servants.
For your appreciated efforts, O foremost servant.
فَإِنَّكَfor indeed you نعمhow excellent الخادنthe close companion الفاضلvirtuous الَّذيwho
فَإِنَّكَ نعم الخادن الفاضل الَّذي
بِهِby him يَقتديis guided فيin رَأيهhis judgment كُلُّevery حازمresolute person
بِهِ يَقتدي في رَأيه كُلُّ حازم
For you are an excellent, virtuous companion,
You are indeed the virtuous chamberlain whom
Whose judgment every resolute man follows.
Every wise man takes as an example in his opinion.
وَأَنتَand you لمَولاناfor our lord الإِمامthe imam بملكهin his kingdom
وَأَنتَ لمَولانا الإِمام بملكه
معينٌa helper عَلىin تَأييدgiving support أَصدقmost faithful قائمupholder
معينٌ عَلى تَأييد أَصدق قائم
And you are, for our lord the imam within his kingdom,
And you are, in his kingdom, a supporter of our Master the Imam
A helper in giving support, the most faithful upholder.
In strengthening the most truthful pillar.
وَفيكَand in you مِنof الأَوصافqualities ماthat which لَمnot يُحطencompass بِهِaround it
وَفيكَ مِن الأَوصاف ما لَم يُحط بِهِ
كِتابٌa book وَلاnor دِيوانُa verse collection أَبلَغِthe most eloquent ناظمpoet
كِتابٌ وَلا دِيوانُ أَبلَغِ ناظم
And in you are qualities never encompassed
In you are traits that no book or eloquent anthology
By any book or the collected verse of the most eloquent poet.
Has fully captured.
وَقَدand indeed أَذعَنacknowledged الأَخدانُthe close companions أَنكthat you are فائزvictorious
وَقَد أَذعَن الأَخدانُ أَنك فائز
بِسبقكthrough your lead فيin مضمارthe racecourse حسمsettling decisively العَظائمmomentous affairs
بِسبقك في مضمار حسم العَظائم
And the companions have acknowledged that you are victorious
The brothers have conceded that you are superior
Through your lead on the racecourse of settling momentous affairs.
In your precedence in the arena of great feats.
وَإِنand indeed وَزيرthe minister of الإِستشارةconsultation مصطفىMustafa
وَإِن وَزير الإِستشارة مصطفى
لطالعsurely the rising star of رَبthe lord of الملكthe kingdom أَشرَفthe noblest باصمstamper (literal; context unclear)
لطالع رَب الملك أَشرَف باصم
And indeed Mustafa, the minister of counsel,
And the Minister of Consultation Mustafa
Is surely the sovereign's rising star, the noblest stamper.
Is the noblest advisor to the King.
لَهُfor him اللَهGod مِنwhat a شَهمgallant لَبيبdiscerning مجرّبexperienced
لَهُ اللَه مِن شَهم لَبيب مجرّب
أَمينtrustworthy جَليلgreat in القَدرrank ماضيunwavering in العَزائمresolves
أَمين جَليل القَدر ماضي العَزائم
God bless him—a gallant, discerning, seasoned man,
May God grant him wisdom, experience, and trustworthiness,
Trustworthy, great in rank, unwavering in resolve.
A faithful man of great status and firm resolutions.
فَكَمso how often قَدindeed رَأيناwe have seen فيin الصَحائفthe pages ماwhat لهhe possesses
فَكَم قَد رَأينا في الصَحائف ما له
مِنof الهمةzeal العَلياlofty بردّby redressing المَظالمwrongs
مِن الهمة العَليا بردّ المَظالم
How often, then, have we seen in the pages what he possesses
How much we have seen in the papers of his
Of lofty zeal in redressing wrongs.
High ambitions in redressing wrongs.
وَكَمand how often قَدindeed سَمعناwe have heard عَنof سَماحتهhis generosity الَّتيwhich
وَكَم قَد سَمعنا عَن سَماحته الَّتي
محتeffaced جُودthe generosity of مَعْنٍMaʿn بَعدafter كَعبKaʿb وَحاتمand Hatim
محت جُود مَعْنٍ بَعد كَعب وَحاتم
And how often have we heard of his generosity, which

وَكُلand every وَزيرminister أَلمعيّkeen-witted بِتُونسin Tunis

جَديرworthy بِمَدحof praise منfrom فَقيهa jurist وَعالمand a scholar
جَدير بِمَدح من فَقيه وَعالم
And every keen-witted minister in Tunis
Every brilliant minister in Tunis
Deserves praise from a jurist and a scholar.
Deserves the praise of scholar and wise man.
وَشكريand my gratitude عَلىover طُولthe length of المَدىtime فيin زِيادةincrease
وَشكري عَلى طُول المَدى في زِيادة
لِدَولةfor the reign of مَولاناour lord عَظيمgreat in المَراحمmercies
لِدَولة مَولانا عَظيم المَراحم
And my gratitude keeps increasing throughout the passage of time
And my thanks for the long duration, in increasing
For the reign of our lord, whose mercies are great.
The state of our Master the Most Merciful.
