    بَدا في حُصون الداوريِّ سَعيدِ

    The light of an auspicious star in the sky shone clear;

It appeared in the strongholds of al-Dawari Sa'id.

He sprang from Muhammad, prince of those who know,

So a disciple's heart among the people was gladdened by him.

And when he grows in learning and flourishes,

He will be like a new pillar for the arts.

And, like this noble father, he will strive for greatness,

With resolve, foresight, and splendid firmness.

And he will spur the steeds of nobility and intelligence

On the racecourse of sound and unerring judgment.

So al-Ma'mun will not be cited for excellence beside him,

Even were he descended from a thousand Rashids.

Likewise Iyas, Ibn Ma'di, and Ahnaf,

And every hero peerless in combat.

And that is only because he is from Muhammad:

He came forth pure, from one pure and praiseworthy.

So glad tidings to a newborn with the noblest father—

Forbearing, a valiant warrior, a man of knowledge, and a chief.

Indeed, through learning, he has set down his saddle above the full moon,

And through deeds has made every lofty edifice firm.

And this lion cub came to him midway through Dhu al-Qa'dah,

By day, with fortune abundant and lasting.

So it is fitting for one like me to congratulate his prince

On glory among mankind, both newly won and inherited,

And rejoice, since Good Fortune said in a chronogram:

“Mine is the son Ibrahim, the best newborn.”
