عدالة الصَدر في أَحكامه غمرت

عدالة الصَدر في أَحكامه غمرت

كَل البرية مِن قاصٍ وَمِن داني

كَل البرية مِن قاصٍ وَمِن داني

The chief minister’s justice in his rulings has encompassed

The justice of your judgment has overwhelmed

all creation, those far away and those near.

All the wilderness, both remote and near

وَالعَبد صالح وَالكُتّاب قَد لبسوا

وَالعَبد صالح وَالكُتّاب قَد لبسوا

مِن جَورأَغا أَثوابَ أَحزان

مِن جَورأَغا أَثوابَ أَحزان

And the servant Salih and the clerks have donned

While the good servant and the clerks have worn

garments of sorrow through the Agha’s injustice.

From unjust Agha the clothes of sorrow

وَالأَرنؤطي خالف ما

وَالأَرنؤطي خالف ما

بِهِ أَمرت وَلَم يَصرف لإِنسان

بِهِ أَمرت وَلَم يَصرف لإِنسان

And al-Arna’uti has defied what

And Arnuti disobeyed what

you commanded, and has paid no one.

You ordered and did not pay any man

وَبَينَ هذين قَد ضاعَت جَوامكُنا

وَبَينَ هذين قَد ضاعَت جَوامكُنا

مِن منذ عام وَلم نُغمَر بِإِحسان

مِن منذ عام وَلم نُغمَر بِإِحسان

And between these two, our salaries have been lost

And between these two, our lives were lost

for a year now, and we have not been showered with kindness.

For over a year without any benevolence

أَمّا العِيال فمن جوعٍ وَمِن ظَمأٍ

أَمّا العِيال فمن جوعٍ وَمِن ظَمأٍ

أَضحوا كَأَنَّهُمُ مَوتى بِأَكفان

أَضحوا كَأَنَّهُمُ مَوتى بِأَكفان

As for the dependents, from hunger and thirst

they have become like corpses in shrouds.

They have become as if dead in shrouds

فَجُد لَهُم بِالعَطا وَاعطف وَمُر كرماً

فَجُد لَهُم بِالعَطا وَاعطف وَمُر كرماً

مَن شئتَ بِالصَرف لي مِن أَي ديوان

مَن شئتَ بِالصَرف لي مِن أَي ديوان

So grant them bounty, show compassion, and graciously command

So be generous and merciful to them and order graciously

whomever you wish to pay me from any bureau.

Whoever you wish to disburse to me from any treasury

فَما عَلى عهدتي باقٍ يؤخرني

فَما عَلى عهدتي باقٍ يؤخرني

عَن أَخذ ماهيّتي مِن بَعد حرماني

عَن أَخذ ماهيّتي مِن بَعد حرماني

For nothing remains outstanding in my charge to delay me

For there is nothing left in my charge that delays me

from receiving my monthly salary after being denied it.
