Majdi, your servant, hopes you will generously grant him

A post for Shafiq, as he promised.

For you bestowed on me, without being asked,

What I had never once expected to receive.

And how can I fear fortune's reversals, when I have

Your pledge of protection, and my quest will not be in vain?

And you are life-giving rain, without promise or harm,

Quenching a guest who has stretched a hand toward its bounty.

Nor has your eye of justice ever slumbered,

Unmindful of a servant who feared neither injustice nor hardship—

Of a servant who, in residence and on his travels,

Gained glory by praising you, and takes pride forever.

May you never cease, O guardian of glory, to grant me

Prestige, and to give me support among mankind,

As long as I delight in praising your lofty virtues, and as long as

Your suppliant relies on you, after the Creator.
