لقدindeed تعبgrew weary الليلthe night مماof what يعيit perceives
So what ails you, O eye, that you have not slept?
Why, my eyes, do you not sleep?
The night has indeed grown weary of what it perceives.
The night has wearied from so much wakefulness
فصعَّدso it heaved فيin السهلthe plain أنفاسهits breaths
وأحنىand it bowed علىover الجبلthe mountain الأصلعthe bald
So it heaved its sighs in the plain,
It climbed up the plain, sighing
And bowed over the bald mountain,
And bent over the bare hill
واغمضand it closed عينيهits eyes مستأنساًfinding comfort
بلحنin a melody منfrom القاتمthe dark one المفزعthe terrifying
And closed its eyes, finding comfort
And closed its eyes finding comfort
In a melody from the dark, terrifying one.
In a tune of the scary darkness

ويبكيand it weeps علىover هادئquiet الأربعthe dwellings
It wails far away and laments its heartache,
Crying from afar, complaining of passion
And weeps over the quiet dwellings.
And weeping over the calm fourfold

God help you, O eye; dawn's eyelid
By Allah, my eyes, the dawn's eyelid
Flutters—so what ails you that you have not slept?
Flutters so why have you not slept?

And in the soul is a longing for her apparition
And my soul longs for her apparition
That has worn away at my heart and my ribs.
Flowing from my heart and ribs
