Night has stirred; rise, let us rock our hopes

    On a swing of moonlight,

And set our dancing dreams free

Upon the pulses of the radiant stars,

So they roam above the bed of clouds

And frolic beneath the boughs of trees,

And the breeze's sighs bear them,

So a trace of us clings to the dawn.

I brought you forth from the pulses of hearts,

And the flutter of eyes, and the smile of predawn,

And from the garden's delight after spring—

Dew-laden—and from the whispers of evening talk.

So you are purer and more radiant than a dream,

    And softer than memory's glances.

And indeed you are beyond the reach of hopes,

And imagination's range, and humankind's conjectures.

I asked you: should you ever be drawn to

A young man other than me, then keep the news from me.
