فيا عجبا لطويل الأناة

فيا عجبا لطويل الأناة

وعهد الصبا بعد في المطلع

وعهد الصبا بعد في المطلع

Oh, how strange for one so long-suffering,

What a wonder, then, is one so forbearing,

with the season of youth still at its dawn!

While the days of youth are still at their dawn.

أقول لنفسي وقيت الخطوب

أقول لنفسي وقيت الخطوب

أنا من تكاثرتُ في أدربي

أنا من تكاثرتُ في أدربي

I tell my soul: May you be spared calamity—

I say to myself: May you be spared calamities—

I am the one who has multiplied along my paths.

I, who have multiplied along my paths.

إذا ترغبين بغير البعيد

إذا ترغبين بغير البعيد

طلاباً من العيش لا تطلبي

طلاباً من العيش لا تطلبي

If what you desire is anything but the far-off,

If you long for what is not far off,

do not ask life for what you seek.

Make no request of life.

أحبُّ إليّ وأطيب حظ

أحبُّ إليّ وأطيب حظ

يحجب جسمي في رمسه

يحجب جسمي في رمسه

Dearer to me, and sweeter, is the fate

Dearest to me, and sweetest, is the fate

that veils my body in its grave,

That conceals my body in its grave

ويملأ عيني من ظلمات

ويملأ عيني من ظلمات

هي الصمت أو هي من همسه

هي الصمت أو هي من همسه

and fills my eyes with darknesses

And fills my eyes with darkness

made of silence, or born of its whisper.

That is silence, or part of its whisper.

هنالك تلقين دفء الخلود

هنالك تلقين دفء الخلود

وقلبي بردَ الفناء الهني

وقلبي بردَ الفناء الهني

There you will find the warmth of eternity,

There you will find the warmth of immortality,

and my heart, the coolness of blissful extinction;

وأرشف عرف الثرى المحسن

وأرشف عرف الثرى المحسن

and I sip the fragrance of the bountiful earth.

And I sip the fragrance of the benevolent earth.
