When will the dark horizon brighten

and You hear, O Lord, what I ask?

I saw You before the years poured down,

Your kindly face keeping me company.

And You are near to me, near,

as my breath is to me—no, nearer.

You speak to me, and I sense a flash,

whose gushing spring has burst forth within me.

And You gaze at me, and whiteness stirs,

and its cool, pearly light envelops me.
