The earth has swayed with love once more,

And confession has coursed through the hills and cold uplands.

So every breeze bears an outpouring of lament,

And longing from a lovesick, afflicted soul.

In the brooks' murmur is the yearning of a lover—

Tormented—and in the deserts' brooding hush.

Love has maddened the birds' hearts in the woods,

And seduced even the hearts of lions.

So songs of love echo in the valleys,

And the plain, the hills, and the barren heights,

Amid the recurring trills of a tranquil nightingale,

And the plaints of a heartsick herd of gazelles,

And the consolations of a swaying, leafy bough,

And the breaths of dew-fresh roses.

This is spring's bridal procession: an awakening

From slumber, and a rousing from inertia.

For the streaming light from every direction

    Spreads over the supple boughs;

It makes color sprout wherever it falls,

So colors are a glow from its outstretched thread.

    And behold, Adam watches, bewildered,

The surge of forces and the rebirth of existence.
