They entice with what they leave of their scent,
They tempt with what they leave of their scent
so lovely, yet they do not know whom they entice.
Beauty, unaware of who they tempt.
تتركthey leave للأجواءto the air أنفاسَهاtheir breaths
تترك للأجواء أنفاسَها
وللربىand to the hills والمهمهِand the wilderness القفرbarren
وللربى والمهمهِ القفر
They leave their breaths to the air,
They leave their breaths for the air
and to the hills and the barren wilderness.
And the meadows and barren wasteland
والضوءُand light هلquestion marker يعرفknow كمhow many مقلةan eye
والضوءُ هل يعرف كم مقلة
هامتَbecame enamored بهof it منsince أولthe beginning الدهرtime
هامتَ به من أول الدهر
And does light know how many eyes
Does light know how many eyelids
have been enamored of it since time began,
Have languished for it since the dawn of time?
وانهand that it is الهاديthe guide ومستنزلُand the summoner
وانه الهادي ومستنزلُ
اللونِcolor ومجدُand the glory الشقرthe fair-haired والسمرand the dark-complexioned
اللونِ ومجدُ الشقر والسمر
and that it is the guide and the summoner
It is the guide, the colors' residence
of color, and the glory of the fair and the dark,
And glory of blond and brown
وكلُّand every شكلٍform نعمةٌa blessing
وكلُّ شكلٍ نعمةٌ
منfrom جريهِits flow أيانَwhen ماever يجريit flows
من جريهِ أيانَ ما يجري
and that every form is a blessing
Every form is a blessing
from its flow, whenever it flows?
However its course may run.

وكم ربيعٍ راحَ من فيضهِ
يرفلُstruts فيin أوراقِهِits leaves النُضرfresh and green
يرفلُ في أوراقِهِ النُضر
and how many a springtime, from its overflow, has gone
And how many springs have passed from its flood
strutting in its fresh green leaves?
