رقَّ الزجاجُ وَرَقَّت الخمرُ

رقَّ الزجاجُ وَرَقَّت الخمرُ

وَتشابها فَتَشاكل الأَمرُ

وَتشابها فَتَشاكل الأَمرُ

The glass was delicate, and the wine was clear;

The glass was thin, the wine was clear

And the two resembled each other, so the matter grew confused.

And so the two did blend and disappear

فَكَأَنَّما خمرٌ وَلا قَدحٌ

فَكَأَنَّما خمرٌ وَلا قَدحٌ

وَكَأَنَّما قَدحٌ وَلا خمرُ

وَكَأَنَّما قَدحٌ وَلا خمرُ

So it was as though there were wine and no goblet,

It seemed as though there was no glass at all

And as though there were a goblet and no wine.

And as though there was no wine there in the hall
