ياO عائِبَyou who disparage الأَعرابِthe Bedouins منout of جَهلِهِhis ignorance
يا عائِبَ الأَعرابِ من جَهلِهِ

لِأَكلِها الحَيّات في الطعمِ
O you who, in your ignorance, disparage the Bedouins
O you who blame the Bedouins for their ignorance,
For eating snakes as food—
For the snakes eat them for their taste,
فَالعُجمُyet the non-Arabs طولُthroughout اللَيلthe night حَياتِهِمtheir snakes
فَالعُجمُ طولُ اللَيل حَياتِهِم

تَنساب في الأُخت وَفي الأُمِّ
Yet the non-Arabs' snakes, all night long,
While for the non-Arabs, the length of their night are their lives,
Slither into the sister and into the mother.
Flowing into the sister and the mother.
