ياO أَميرCommander المُؤمِنينَthe Faithful المُرتَضىthe chosen one (al-Murtada)
يا أَمير المُؤمِنينَ المُرتَضى
اِنindeed قَلبيmy heart عِندَكُمwith you قَدalready وَقَفاhas come to rest
اِن قَلبي عِندَكُم قَد وَقَفا
O Commander of the Faithful, al-Murtada,
O commander of the faithful, chosen one
Indeed, my heart has come to rest with you.
My heart has certainly stopped with you
كُلَّماwhenever جَدَّدتُI renewed مَدحيmy praise فيكُمُof you
كُلَّما جَدَّدتُ مَدحي فيكُمُ
قالَsaid ذوone possessing النَصبِenmity toward Ali نَسيتَyou have forgotten السَلَفاthe forebears
قالَ ذو النَصبِ نَسيتَ السَلَفا
Whenever I renew my praise of you,
Whenever I renew my praise of you
the one bearing enmity says, "You have forgotten the forebears."
The one with hardships said, you forgot those of the past
مَنwho كَمَولايَlike my master عَلَيٍّAli زاهِدan ascetic
مَن كَمَولايَ عَلَيٍّ زاهِد
طَلَّقdivorced الدُنياthe world ثَلاثاًthree times وَوَفىand kept his word
طَلَّق الدُنيا ثَلاثاً وَوَفى
Who is an ascetic like my master Ali,
Who is my master Ali, the ascetic
who divorced the world three times and kept his word?
Who divorced the world three times and fulfilled
مَنwho دُعيwas summoned لِلطَيرِfor the bird اِذwhen يَأكُلُهُhe was eating it
مَن دُعي لِلطَيرِ اِذ يَأكُلُهُ
وَلَناand for us فيin بَعضpart of هذاthis مُكتَفىenough
وَلَنا في بَعض هذا مُكتَفى
Who was summoned for the bird as he was eating it?
Who was called to be eaten by the birds
And in part of this we have enough.
And for us in some of this there is sufficiency
مَنwho وَصيُّappointed successor المُصطَفىthe Chosen One عِندَكُمُin your view
مَن وَصيُّ المُصطَفى عِندَكُمُ
وَوَصِيُّand the appointed successor المُصطَفىthe Chosen One مَنthe one who يُصطَفىis chosen
وَوَصِيُّ المُصطَفى مَن يُصطَفى
Who, in your view, is the Chosen One's appointed successor?
Who is the successor of Mustafa with you
And the Chosen One's appointed successor is the one chosen.
And the successor of Mustafa, who would be chosen
سَورَةُsurah التَوبَةَRepentance منwho وُلِيِّهاwas entrusted with it
سَورَةُ التَوبَةَ من وُلِيِّها
بَيِّنواmake clear الحقَّthe truth وَمَنand who ذاthe one who صُرِفاwas dismissed
بَيِّنوا الحقَّ وَمَن ذا صُرِفا
The surah of Repentance—who was entrusted with it?
Surat Al-Tawbah, from its guardian
Make the truth clear—and who was it that was dismissed?
Clarify the truth, and who could avert it
