ياO بانِياًbuilder لِلقَصرِof the palace بَلrather لَلعلىof lofty glory
هَمُّكَyour ambition وَالفَرقَدُand Farqad (the star) سَيّانِare equal
O builder of the palace—rather, of lofty glory!
Your ambition and the star Farqad are equals.
لَمdid not تَبنِyou build هذاthis القَصرَthe palace بَلrather صُغتَهُyou fashioned it
تاجاًa crown عَلىupon مَفرَقِthe crown of the head جرجانِJurjan
You did not build this palace; rather, you fashioned it
as a crown upon the head of Jurjan.
وَقَصرُكَand your palace المَبنِيُّbuilt منfrom قَبلِهِbefore it
مَلككَyour kingdom وَاللَهُand God هوHe البانيthe builder
And your palace, built before this one,
is your kingdom, and God Himself is its builder.

So accept your servant's scattered pearls—rather, his strung verse,
for it and pearls are alike.

مُذsince كانَتexisted الدُنياthe world لِاِنسانِto any person
And hear a saying whose like has never been spoken
to anyone since the world began:
لَوif كانَthere were لِلخَلقfor creation الهانِtwo gods
لَكانَthen would be فَخرُFakhr الدَولَةِal-Dawla الثانيthe second
If creation had two gods,
Fakhr al-Dawla would be the second.
