بِمُستَهَلِّwith the first outpouring of الشُؤبوبِthe cloudburst منسجمِهits streaming rain
Do you not see how generous it has been to us today,
Do you not see how today has graciously given us
with the cloudburst's first outpouring, its rain streaming down?
At the start of the auspicious season, harmoniously arranged,
يَحكيresembles أَباAbu (father of) الفَضلِal-Fadl فيin تَفضُّلهِhis generosity
هَيهاتfar indeed أَنthat يَعتَزيclaim kinship إِلىwith شِيَمِهhis noble traits
It resembles Abu al-Fadl in his generosity,
Telling of the excellence of Abul Fadl in his generosity—
yet it is far from claiming kinship with his noble traits!
Far be it that he should ever fall short of his noble manners!
كَمmany an حاسِدٍenvier ليof me وَكنتُand I used to أَحسِدُهُenvy him
يَقولsays منfrom غيظِهhis rage وَمنand from أَلَمِهhis pain
Many a man who envies me, whom I used to envy,
How many enviers I have, though I used to be envious of them,
says in his rage and pain:
Saying in their rancor and pain:
نالَattained اِبنُIbn (son of) عبادٍAbbad المنىthe wishes كَمَلاًin full
اِذwhen عَدَّهhe counted him ابنُIbn (son of) العَميدِal-Amid منamong خَدَمِهhis servants
“Ibn Abbad has attained all he wished for,
Ibn ‘Abbad has attained his wish completely
when Ibn al-Amid counted him among his servants.”
Since the son of al-‘Amīd has counted him among his servants.
