ناصِبٌ قالَ لي مُعاوِيَة خا

ناصِبٌ قالَ لي مُعاوِيَة خا

لُكَ خيرُ الأَعمامِ وَالأَخوالِ

لُكَ خيرُ الأَعمامِ وَالأَخوالِ

A Nāṣibī said to me, “Muʿāwiya is your maternal un—

An enemy of Ali said to me, “Muʿāwiya, your maternal un-

—cle, the best of paternal and maternal uncles;

-cle, is the best of paternal and maternal uncles;

فَهوَ خالٌ لِلمُؤمِنينَ جَميعاً

فَهوَ خالٌ لِلمُؤمِنينَ جَميعاً

قُلتُ خالي لكِن مِنَ الخَيرِ خالي

قُلتُ خالي لكِن مِنَ الخَيرِ خالي

for he is a maternal uncle to all the believers.”

I said, “My uncle—but empty of goodness.”

I said, “My maternal uncle—but devoid of goodness.”
