حُرِمَ الصَبُّ فيهُ حُسنَ العَوايد
They have indeed wronged fasting and said:
“During it, the lovelorn is denied his accustomed delights.”
كَذبواthey lied فالصِيامُfor fasting لِلمَرءِfor a person مَهماso long as

كانَ مُستَيقِظاً أَتَمُّ الفَوايِد
They lied: fasting, for a man—so long as
he is alert—is the greatest of benefits:

A place to stand by day that arouses no suspicion,
and a gathering by night at the mosques.
