فاقَ حسانَ الغَربِ وَالشَرقِ
A fencer of the utmost skill,
A man of great skill and intellect
Who surpassed the beauties of West and East.
Surpassing the finest of East and West
شَبَّهتُهُI likened him وَالسَيفُand the sword فيin كَفِّهِhis hand
شَبَّهتُهُ وَالسَيفُ في كَفِّهِ
بِالبَدرِto the full moon اِذas يَلعَبُit plays بِالبَرقِwith lightning
بِالبَدرِ اِذ يَلعَبُ بِالبَرقِ
I likened him, with the sword in his hand,
I saw him with sword in hand
To the full moon as it plays with lightning.
