The full moon indeed thought his beauty deficient.
Badr al-tamm thought his beauty was impaired
Away, then, with the moon's face, along with its ill opinion!
So away with the face of the moon and its misjudgement
وَلَوand if أَنَّthat هاروتاًHarut رَأىsaw سِحرَthe magic of عَينِهِhis eye
وَلَو أَنَّ هاروتاً رَأى سِحرَ عَينِهِ

تَعَلَّمَ كَيفَ السِحرُ من حدّ جفنِهِ
And had Harut seen the magic of his eye,
If Harut had seen the magic of his eyes
he would have learned how magic works from the edge of his eyelid.
He would have learned magic from the edge of his eyelids
