إِذاif رَأَيتَyou see امرءاًa man فيin حالِthe state of عُسرَتِهِhis hardship
إِذا رَأَيتَ امرءاً في حالِ عُسرَتِهِ
مُصافِياًsincere in friendship لَكَtoward you ماnot فيin ودِّهhis affection خَلَلُa flaw
مُصافِياً لَكَ ما في ودِّه خَلَلُ
If you see a man in his time of hardship,
When you see a man in his time of need
Sincere in his friendship toward you, with no flaw in his affection,
Pure towards you, with no ill in his affection
فَلاthen do not تَمنَّwish لَهُfor him أَنthat يَستَفيدَhe acquire غِنىًwealth
فَلا تَمنَّ لَهُ أَن يَستَفيدَ غِنىً
فَاِنَّهُfor he بِاِنتِقالِwith the change of الحالِthe circumstances يَنتَقِلُhe changes
فَاِنَّهُ بِاِنتِقالِ الحالِ يَنتَقِلُ
Then do not wish for him to acquire wealth,
Do not wish for him to gain wealth
For as his circumstances change, he too changes.
For with the changing of fortune he too will change
