تَناسَيتَyou pretended to forget وَعديthe promise made to me وَأَهمَلتَهُand neglected it
وَغَرَّكَand misled you فيin ذاكَthat مِنّيfrom me السُكوتُsilence
You pretended to forget the promise made to me and neglected it,
You forgot your promise and neglected it
And my silence misled you in that,
And my silence deceived you in that
إِلىuntil أَنthat عَلاهُcovered it غُبارُdust المَطالِdelay
وَخَيَّمَand encamped مِنfrom فَوقِهِabove it العَنكَبوتُthe spider
Until the dust of delay settled over it,
Until the dust of hopes covered it
And a spider made camp above it.
And cobwebs hovered over it
فَناسَيتُso I distracted نَفسيmyself وَعَلَّلتُهاand consoled it
بِأَنwith the thought that سَوفَwill أَذكُرُهI remember it إِذwhile حَييتُI lived
So I distracted myself and consoled myself
So I forgot myself and excused it
With the thought that I would remember it while I lived.
Saying I will remember it if I live
فَلَمّاthen when تَجاوَزَit exceeded حَدَّthe limit المَطالِdelay
نَسيتُI forgot بِأَنّيthat I لَهُof it قَدalready نَسيتُI had forgotten
Then, when it exceeded the bounds of delay,
But when it exceeded the limit of hopes
I forgot that I had already forgotten it.
I forgot that I had forgotten it
