لَقَدindeed جُزتَyou have exceeded فيin الصَدِّturning away حَدَّthe limit of الزِيادَهexcess
فَلاso do not تَجعَلِmake الهَجرَestrangement خُلقاًa character trait وَعادَهand a habit
You have indeed exceeded the bounds of excess in turning away;
You have exceeded the limit in estrangement,
So do not make estrangement your nature and habit.
So do not make abandonment a habit.
فَعِنديfor I have اِشتِياقٌlonging شَديدٌintense إِلَيكَfor you
وَقَلبُكَand your heart يَشهَدُbears witness هَذيthis الشَهادَهtestimony
For I have an intense longing for you,
I have an intense yearning for you,
And your heart bears this testimony.
And your heart testifies to this testimony.
وَعَوَّدتَنيand you have accustomed me مِنكَfrom you حُسنَthe goodness of الوَدادِaffection
وَماand not يَطلُبُseeks القَلبُthe heart إِلّاexcept اِعتِيادَهwhat it is accustomed to
And you have accustomed me to your kindly affection,
You have accustomed me to your affection,
And the heart asks only for what it is used to.
And what the heart seeks is only its habit.
وَإِنّيand indeed I عَهِدتُكَhave known you نَجلَa scion of الجِيادِthe noble ones
لِذَلِكَfor that reason أَطلُبُI ask مِنكَfrom you الإِجادَهexcellence
And I have known you as a scion of the noble,
I knew you as the best of steeds,
For that reason I ask excellence of you.
So I ask you for excellence from you.
فَإِنso if أَنتَyou أَتحَفتَنيyou honored me بِالحُضورِwith your presence
فَمِنthen from أَينَwhere لِلعَبدِfor the servant هَذيthis السَعادَهhappiness
So if you honor me with your presence,
If you would gift me with your presence,
Then whence comes such happiness to this servant?
How could a servant attain such felicity?
