أَطلَقتَyou freed نُطقيmy speech بِالمَحامِدِwith praises عِندَماwhen
أَطلَقتَ نُطقي بِالمَحامِدِ عِندَما
قَيَّدتَنيyou bound me بِسَوابِقِwith earlier acts of الإِنعامِbounty
قَيَّدتَني بِسَوابِقِ الإِنعامِ
You freed my speech to offer praises when
You unleashed my tongue in praise when
You bound me with your earlier acts of bounty.
You bound me with precedent favors
فَليَشكُرَنكَso let it thank you نِيابَةًas a substitute عَنfor مَنطِقيmy speech
فَليَشكُرَنكَ نِيابَةً عَن مَنطِقي
صَدرُthe breast of الطُروسِthe pages وَأَلسَنُand the tongues of الأَقلامِthe pens
صَدرُ الطُروسِ وَأَلسَنُ الأَقلامِ
So let them thank you in my speech’s stead:
So let the breasts of doves thank you on behalf of my tongue
The breast of the pages and the tongues of the pens.
And the nibs of pens
