حَرَّضونيthey urged me عَلىto السَلوِّforgetting love وَعابواand they disparaged
حَرَّضوني عَلى السَلوِّ وَعابوا
لَكَof yours وَجهاًa face بِهِbecause of it يُعابُis put to shame البَدرُthe full moon
لَكَ وَجهاً بِهِ يُعابُ البَدرُ
They urged me to forget and disparaged
a face of yours that puts the full moon to shame.
حاشاfar be it لِلَّهِfor God ماnot لِعُذرِيَfor my excuse وَجهٌgrounds
حاشا لِلَّهِ ما لِعُذرِيَ وَجهٌ
فيin التَسَلّيseeking solace وَلاnor لِوَجهِكَfor your face عُذرُan excuse
في التَسَلّي وَلا لِوَجهِكَ عُذرُ
God forbid! My excuse has no grounds
for seeking solace, nor does your face have an excuse.
