وَهوَ الجَوادُ وَظَهرُ الطِرسِ مَيدانُ
The reed pen ran wild because I gave it free rein;
The pen slipped from my hand's grasp
It is the steed, and the page’s surface its racecourse.
Though it is generous, and the page is its race-course

So do not blame me for the reed pen’s unruliness if
So do not blame the pen for its slip
It runs away with me—for pens can be unruly.
When it flows onto me, for pens tend to slip
