ماnot زالَceased كُحلُkohl النَومِsleep فيin ناظِريmy eye
ما زالَ كُحلُ النَومِ في ناظِري
مِنfrom قَبلِbefore إِعراضِكَyour turning away وَالبَينِand parting
مِن قَبلِ إِعراضِكَ وَالبَينِ
The kohl of sleep had remained in my eye
The kohl of sleep still lingers in my eyes
From before your turning away and parting,
Since you turned away and we parted
حَتّىuntil سَرَقتَyou stole الغُمضَslumber مِنfrom مُقلَتَيmy two eyes
حَتّى سَرَقتَ الغُمضَ مِن مُقلَتَي
ياO سارِقَthief of الكُحلِthe kohl مِنَfrom العَينِthe eye
يا سارِقَ الكُحلِ مِنَ العَينِ
Until you stole slumber from my two eyes,
Until you stole the closing from my eyelids
O thief of kohl from the eye.
