    وَفي مَحَبَّتِكَ العُشّاقُ قَد عُذِروا

    The full moon's light apologizes to your face;

    And lovers have indeed been excused for loving you.

    وَنارُ حُبِّكَ لا تُبقي وَلا تَذَرُ

    And beauty's paradise is held fast within your cheeks;

    And the fire of love for you spares nothing and leaves nothing.

    O you who coyly sway the bough of your stature:

    This is the bough—where, then, are the shade and fruit?

    I did not think that union was unattainable,

    Or that your promise was lightning without rain.

    إِنَّ الخَطيرَ عَليهِ يَسهُلُ الخَطَرُ

    I risked my precious soul for you, offering it freely;

    For a man of worth, danger is easy to face.

    When I saw the darkness of your hair appear,

    I waded into the darkness, but the moon deceived me.
