أَصبَحَت نارُ وَجنَتَيكَ رَمادا

أَصبَحَت نارُ وَجنَتَيكَ رَمادا

وَرَبيعُ الجَمالِ مِنكَ جَمادا

وَرَبيعُ الجَمالِ مِنكَ جَمادا

The fire of your cheeks has turned to ash,

The fire of your cheeks has turned to ashes,

And beauty’s springtime in you has become lifeless.

And the springtime of your beauty to stillness.

وَاِستِحالَ سَوادُ حَظّي بَياضاً

وَاِستِحالَ سَوادُ حَظّي بَياضاً

حينَ حالَ البَياضُ مِنكَ سَوادا

حينَ حالَ البَياضُ مِنكَ سَوادا

And the blackness of my fortune has turned white,

The blackness of my fate has turned to whiteness,

When the whiteness in you turned black.

Since the whiteness of your face has turned black.

أَحمَدُ اللَهَ إِذ كَساكَ عِذاراً

أَحمَدُ اللَهَ إِذ كَساكَ عِذاراً

حالَ مِنهُ الجَمالُ عَنكَ وَحادا

حالَ مِنهُ الجَمالُ عَنكَ وَحادا

I praise God, for He clothed you in cheek hair,

I thank God, though you have donned the veil,

Because of it, beauty departed from you and turned away.

Beauty has turned from you, and departed.

زادَ في الخَلقِ ما يَشاءُ وَلَكِن

زادَ في الخَلقِ ما يَشاءُ وَلَكِن

زالَ مِن وَجِهكَ البَها حينَ زادا

زالَ مِن وَجِهكَ البَها حينَ زادا

He added to creation whatever He wills, and yet

He adds to creation what He will, but still,

The radiance left your face when He made that addition.

The splendor has gone from your face now it's veiled.
