Spare me the talk of Zayd and Amr.
Leave me be from the talk of Zayd and Amr,
And give me drink amid lute-playing and piping.
And quench my thirst between lute and zither.

And leave off reproaching me today for my wine.
Let go of blaming me today in my sittings,
For excessive reproach over that only tempts.
For excessive blaming in that allures me.

In scolding me and estranging he who persisted estranging me.

For one who cannot diminish my sustenance
Indeed, he who cannot endure diminishes my livelihood,
Could not inscribe my lifespan.
He was not able to craft my lifetime.

Many a day I spent in joy;
Many a day I spent in happiness in it,
So, in its merriment, it is better than a thousand months.
It is, by God, better than a thousand months.

My life grew sweet with every night of drinking,
My life is good in every night of drinking
Reckoned in joy a Night of Decree.
That I intended for joy the Night of Power.

So we reveled in al-Hashiriyya until
So we had a night of pleasure until
I thought the wine's light was the break of dawn.
I left the light of the wine the rise of dawn.

With a gazelle whose eyes are from the family of Hārb,
When he appears, his face is of Badr's clan.
When it appears and its face from the family of Badr.

He partakes of my love and mixes my wine,
It takes my love and mixes my comfort,
And offers my cup and recites my poetry.
And shares my cup and recites my poetry.

Spring has settled there, so the blossoms display
Spring settled in it so the flowers reveal
A blaze I took for torches of glowing embers.
Flames whose embers are torches of live coals.

"Hurry and circulate cups of wine!"

So he hurried with them and I said, "Pass them around,
You're no cupbearer of mine, nor worth a clipping of my nail!"
You're no cupbearer nor crown of my pride."
