ياO مُهينيyou who dishonor me عِندَduring المَغيبِabsence وَمُبدٍand one who displays
يا مُهيني عِندَ المَغيبِ وَمُبدٍ
مَعwith حُضوريmy presence خُضوعَsubmission عَبدٍa slave لِمَولىto a master
مَع حُضوري خُضوعَ عَبدٍ لِمَولى
O you who dishonor me in my absence and display
O you who degrade me when I'm absent yet
In my presence a slave's submission to a master,
Act submissively like a slave with his master when I'm present
لاdo not تَقُمrise ليfor me مَعَwith التَقاعُدِholding back عَنّيfrom me
لا تَقُم لي مَعَ التَقاعُدِ عَنّي
فَقِيامِfor steadfastness النُفوسِof souls بِالوُدِّin affection أَولىmore fitting
فَقِيامِ النُفوسِ بِالوُدِّ أَولى
Do not rise for me while keeping aloof from me;
Do not stand up for me only when withdrawing from me
For souls to stand firm in affection is more fitting.
For the rising of souls with love is more proper
