O you untouched by the sickness of my stricken heart,

And steadfast in the affection of old,

If you sleep carefree, then in your absence my heart

Is daily in anguish that makes it sit and rise.

Or if my mind, remembering you, dwells in Para-

dise, my eyes are in agonizing torment.

When, then, will time grant the joy of meeting

You to a lover in the hell of separation,

And union say: 'O fire, be coolness

    And peace for Ibrahim'?

O namesake of him whose son God ransomed, to hon-

or him, with a mighty sacrifice,

Were I able, I would ransom nearness to

You with the black core of my soul and my very essence.
