ياO بَصيراًkeen-sighted one إِلّاexcept بِإِبصارِin reading كُتبيmy letters
يا بَصيراً إِلّا بِإِبصارِ كُتبي
وَجَواداًand generous one إِلّاexcept بِرَدِّin sending back جَوابيa reply to me
وَجَواداً إِلّا بِرَدِّ جَوابي
O keen-sighted one, except in reading my letters,
O Seer, only through the vision of my books
And generous one, except in sending me a reply.
And Generous, only through the return of my answers
وَلَوَand if اِنّيthat I بَلَغتُattained سُؤليmy wish مِنَfrom الدَهTime (first part of الدهر)
وَلَوَ اِنّي بَلَغتُ سُؤلي مِنَ الدَه
رِcompletion of الدهر, meaning Time لَوافَيتُهُI would have come to him مَكانَin place of الكِتابِthe letter
رِ لَوافَيتُهُ مَكانَ الكِتابِ
And had I attained my wish from Time,
And if my hopes had reached even farther
I would have come to him in place of the letter.
I would have met them in place of the scripture
