ماno جاءَreached عَبدَكَyour servant مَسطورٌa written message بَعَثتَyou sent بِهِwith it
ما جاءَ عَبدَكَ مَسطورٌ بَعَثتَ بِهِ
إِلّاexcept that تَقَبَّلَهُhe accepted it حُبّاًout of love وَقَبَّلَهُand kissed it
إِلّا تَقَبَّلَهُ حُبّاً وَقَبَّلَهُ
No written message you sent ever reached your servant
Whatever report of your servant you received
without his accepting it lovingly and kissing it.
You welcomed with love and embraced it
وَلاand never سَمَحتَyou granted بِوَعدٍwith a promise فيهِin it مُرتَقَبٍawaited
وَلا سَمَحتَ بِوَعدٍ فيهِ مُرتَقَبٍ
إِلّاexcept that تَأَمَّلَهُhe pondered it عَشراًten times وَأَمَّلَهُand hoped for it
إِلّا تَأَمَّلَهُ عَشراً وَأَمَّلَهُ
Nor did you offer any awaited promise within it
And no promise you hoped for from him
without his pondering it ten times and setting his hopes on it.
Without viewing it with favor and delaying it
وَلاand never أُتيتَyou were presented بِعُذرٍwith an excuse عَنfor تَأَخُّرِهِits delay
وَلا أُتيتَ بِعُذرٍ عَن تَأَخُّرِهِ
إِلّاexcept that تَعَلَّلَhe consoled himself بِاللُقياwith meeting وَعَلَّلَهُand justified it
إِلّا تَعَلَّلَ بِاللُقيا وَعَلَّلَهُ
Nor were you presented with an excuse for its delay
And no excuse for his tardiness came to you
without his taking solace in the prospect of meeting and justifying it.
Except you accepted it with gentleness and excused it
ماwhat ضَرَّwould harm مَولايَmy lord لَوif زادَincreased الخِطابُthe correspondence بِهِwith him
ما ضَرَّ مَولايَ لَو زادَ الخِطابُ بِهِ
وَلَوand if تَطَوَّلَhe bestowed favor بِالحُسنىwith kindness وَطَوَّلَهُand lengthened it
وَلَو تَطَوَّلَ بِالحُسنى وَطَوَّلَهُ
What harm would it do my lord if correspondence with him increased,
It would not harm my Master if words about him increased
and if he graciously showed kindness and lengthened it?
Or if the best was prolonged and extended for him
