لاno غَروَwonder إِنif قَصَّclipped جَناحيmy wing الرَدىdeath
لا غَروَ إِن قَصَّ جَناحي الرَدى
فَعُذرُهُfor his excuse فيfor فِعلِهِhis action واضِحُclear
فَعُذرُهُ في فِعلِهِ واضِحُ
No wonder if death has clipped my wing;
No wonder my wings are clipped by fate
For his excuse for doing so is clear.
The fault in its deeds is plain to see
يَضرِبُhe turns عَنaway from ذيone with النَقصِdeficiency صَفحاًin disregard وَلاand not
يَضرِبُ عَن ذي النَقصِ صَفحاً وَلا
يُقَصُّis clipped إِلّاexcept دِرهَمُa dirham الراجِحُthe overweight one
يُقَصُّ إِلّا دِرهَمُ الراجِحُ
He passes over the deficient, and nothing
It looks away from those who are incomplete
is clipped except the overweight dirham.
And only values the heavier coin
