حالي وَحالُكَ كَالهِلالِ وَشَمسِهِ

حالي وَحالُكَ كَالهِلالِ وَشَمسِهِ

مُذ أَكسَبَتهُ النورَ في إِشراقِهِ

My state and yours are like the crescent moon and its sun:

My state and yours are like the crescent moon and its sun

since the sun bestowed on it the light by which it shines.

Since it illuminated it with its light in its rising

فَإِذا نَأى عَنها حَظي بِكَمالِهِ

فَإِذا نَأى عَنها حَظي بِكَمالِهِ

وَإِذا دَنا مِنها رُمي بِمَحاقِهِ

وَإِذا دَنا مِنها رُمي بِمَحاقِهِ

So when it draws away from the sun, it enjoys its fullness;

So when my fortune is far from it, at its peak

and when it draws near, it is cast into its dark phase.

And when it nears it, it is plunged in its setting
