My boon companion, rise to revelry!
My boon companion, arise for revelry,
For time has favored us.
For time has favored us,

تَوَلّى حَملَها بَدرُ
And in our gathering is a sun;
In our gathering there is a sun,
A full moon has undertaken to bear it.
Whose burden the full moon has undertaken,
وَساقٍand a cupbearer كُلَّماwhenever ماسَhe sways

تَشَكّى رِدفَهُ الخَصرُ
And a cupbearer—whenever he sways,
And a flank, whenever it is stroked,
His waist complains of his rump.
Its hips complain of the touch.

وَراحٌ خَشِنٌ مُرُّ
A soft, sweet boon companion,
A boon companion, gentle and sweet,
And harsh, bitter wine.
And a wine, rough and bitter.
