لاmay not جادَwater abundantly هَطّالُtorrential rain السَحائِبِof the clouds بُقعَةًa patch of land
بِالغَورِin al-Ghawr أَضحَتit has become وَهيَand it is شَرُّthe worst بِقاعِهِof its tracts
May the clouds’ torrential rain never water a patch
Not a spot has the rain left untouched
In al-Ghawr that has become the worst of its tracts.
The marshland is now at its worst
أَرضٌa land تَضاعَفَdoubled حَرُّهاits heat وَبَعوضُهاand its mosquitoes
فيin مَرجِهاits meadow لَمّاwhen حَلَلتُI lodged بِقاعِهِon its flat ground
A land whose heat and mosquitoes doubled
A land whose heat and mosquitoes have intensified
In its meadow when I lodged on its flat ground.
When I wandered into its terrain
وَخَلاand was alone الذُبابُthe fly بِهاin it فَلَيسَso it is not بِبارِحٍdeparting
غَرِداًsinging merrily يَحُكُّrubbing ذِراعَهُits arm بِذِراعِهِwith its arm
And the fly had the place to itself and would not leave,
With flies that won't stop swarming
Singing merrily, rubbing one arm against the other.
Buzzing and rubbing their arms against themselves
