إِنif سارَwalks عَبدُكَyour servant أَوَّلاًfirst أَوor آخِراًlast
إِن سارَ عَبدُكَ أَوَّلاً أَو آخِراً
فيin ظِلِّthe shade of مَجدِكَyour glory ماnot تَعَدىoverstepped الواجِباthe duty
في ظِلِّ مَجدِكَ ما تَعَدى الواجِبا
If your servant walks first or last,
If your servant goes first or last
in the shade of your glory, he does not overstep his duty.
In the shade of your glory, he does no more than his duty.
فَإِذاfor when تَأَخَّرَfalls behind كانَis خَلفَكَbehind you خادِماًa servant
فَإِذا تَأَخَّرَ كانَ خَلفَكَ خادِماً
وَإِذاand when تَقَدَّمَgoes ahead كانَis دونَكَbefore you حَجِباa screen
وَإِذا تَقَدَّمَ كانَ دونَكَ حَجِبا
For when he falls behind, he is a servant at your back;
If he lingers behind, he follows as your servant.
and when he goes ahead, he is a screen before you.
If he goes ahead, he is but a veil before you.
