فَما حَرَكاتِيَ إِلّا سُكونُ
If good fortune does not favor me,
When earnestness brings me no joy,
Then my movements are nothing but stillness.
My every impulse is still.

If what the young man desires does not come to be,
When the youth gets not what he wants,
Then, despite himself, let him desire what comes to be.
Let him assent to what will be.
