لئن كان لي عن حسن وجهك من غنى

لئن كان لي عن حسن وجهك من غنى

فلا ضل عني في تردده الفقر

فلا ضل عني في تردده الفقر

If ever I can do without the beauty of your face,

Though your beauty's brought me wealth untold,

then may poverty never miss me on its repeated visits.

Poverty's shadow still o'er me rolled.

وإن نسيت تلك الخلال خواطري

وإن نسيت تلك الخلال خواطري

فلا دار لي ما بين أهل النهى ذكر

فلا دار لي ما بين أهل النهى ذكر

And if my thoughts forget those virtues,

If thoughts of you slip from memory's hold,

then may no mention of me circulate among the wise.

No home have I with pious folk extolled.
